Cobalt Suppliers — Hydroxide & Concentrate from the DR Congo
Battery-chain feedstock · responsible-sourcing checks · Co% assayed

The Democratic Republic of the Congo produces the majority of the world’s cobalt, most of it as a by-product of copper mining in the Haut-Katanga and Lualaba provinces. The principal traded forms are cobalt hydroxide, an intermediate product of hydrometallurgical processing, and cobalt concentrate.
SokoDolla supplies cobalt to refiners, battery-chain buyers and traders, sourced from verified producers in the DRC. We verify the counterparty and its licences, inspect the material, arrange independent assay of cobalt content, and review the supply-chain documentation.
Cobalt carries a dimension of risk that copper does not. Buyers and their downstream customers are subject to responsible-sourcing expectations under the OECD Due Diligence Guidance and, for many, under their own customers’ audit requirements. Provenance and documentation therefore matter as much as grade.

What We Verify Before You Commit
We verify the counterparty, applicable licences, authority to sell, product documentation and independent inspection requirements before a buyer commits. Every engagement follows the SokoDolla Verification Standard.
Responsible Sourcing and Documentation
Cobalt from the DRC attracts scrutiny that most commodities do not, principally over artisanal mining and the conditions under which some material is produced. Buyers supplying into automotive, electronics and battery supply chains are commonly required to demonstrate the origin of their material and the diligence performed on it.
Our verification therefore extends beyond commercial checks to the supply-chain documentation itself: whether the material originates from a licensed industrial operation, what documentation accompanies it from mine to warehouse, and whether the counterparty can evidence that chain. Where a supplier cannot produce a credible account of provenance, we say so.
We do not certify supply chains — that is the role of accredited audit schemes — but we verify what documentation exists, confirm it is genuine, and report our findings plainly so that you can make your own decision with full information.
Documentation Per Consignment
A complete document set is a condition of every shipment we support. Each item below is verified rather than accepted at face value.
- Certificate of Origin (Form A), issued by the local Chamber of Commerce
- Mining and export permits, and mineral export authorisation
- OCC quality specification stating chemical composition, quantity and non-radioactivity
- Independent certificate of analysis stating cobalt and copper content and moisture
- Supply-chain and responsible-sourcing documentation where required by the buyer
- Signed commercial invoice, cargo manifest and packing list
- Full set of clean-on-board Bills of Lading and marine insurance policy
Frequently Asked Questions
What cobalt grades are available from the DRC?
Cobalt hydroxide is the most commonly traded intermediate, typically assaying between 20% and 35% cobalt, often with a payable copper content alongside. Cobalt concentrate is also available, with grade determined lot by lot by assay.
How is cobalt priced?
Cobalt is priced on payable cobalt content against a published reference price on a dry metric tonne basis, with payability, treatment terms and any copper credits agreed in the contract. Unlike copper, cobalt has no single exchange settlement price of equivalent standing, so the reference source is stated in the quotation.
Can you confirm the material is not from artisanal mining?
We verify the licences and documentation the supplier holds and report exactly what the chain of custody evidences. Where a supplier cannot demonstrate that material originates from a licensed industrial operation, we report that finding and advise accordingly. We do not issue supply-chain certification, which is the role of accredited audit schemes.
What documentation accompanies a cobalt shipment?
Certificate of Origin, export permits, OCC quality and non-radioactivity certification, an independent certificate of analysis, commercial invoice, packing list, Bills of Lading and marine insurance — together with any responsible-sourcing documentation your own compliance process requires.
